2004-07-18Move dissectors to epan/dissectors directory.gram1-1601/+0
Also move ncp222.py, x11-fields, process-x11-fields.pl, make-reg-dotc, and make-reg-dotc.py. Adjust #include lines in files that include packet-*.h files. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@11410 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2004-07-18Set the svn:eol-style property on all text files to "native", so thatguy1-1/+1
they have LF at the end of the line on UN*X and CR/LF on Windows; hopefully this means that if a CR/LF version is checked in on Windows, the CRs will be stripped so that they show up only when checked out on Windows, not on UN*X. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@11400 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2004-06-04Add a mechanism where one can provide callbacks to the kerbgeros dissectorsahlberg1-3/+3
to pass back dissection of application specific fields (octet strings) This can later be used to pick up session keys by dcerpc and similar. Currently it will initially be used by packetcable. PacketCable additions by Thomas Anders git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@11101 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2004-02-25Use "tvb_get_string()" instead of allocating a (len+1)-sized buffer,guy1-2/+2
"tvb_memcpy()"ing to it, and putting in a null terminator; "tvb_get_string()" will check whether all bytes of the string are present before allocating the buffer, so that you don't leak memory if the copy throws an exception, and don't crash if the length is absurdly large. Use "tvb_memdup()" instead of allocating a buffer and "tvb_memcpy()"ing to it, so that an exception is thrown before you try to allocate the buffer (for the same reasons as listed above). Before allocating a buffer used when processing a chunk of data from a packet, get a pointer to the chunk with "tvb_get_ptr()", or check that the data is all there with "tvb_ensure_bytes_exist()", so that an exception is thrown before you try to allocate the buffer (for the same reasons as listed above). Fix up the lengths of the tvbuff used when dissecting ONC RPC opaque data with a particular dissector. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@10236 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2004-02-03Make a pointer to which a "const" pointer value is assigned "const"guy1-5/+15
itself. Instead of crashing if a too-large Kerberos blob is seen, just show it as an undecoded item. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@9968 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2004-02-03update to packet-telnet and kerberos authenticationsahlberg1-42/+157
it now dissects the kerberos blobs inside the ktelnet+keytab files posted yesterday. it still needs the kerberos+ber updates to be checked in after next release before we can attack opening hte encrypted parts of kerberos tickets and authenticators the code assumes all telnet authentications being krb5. if that is inconvenient feel welcome to send me captures with krb4 or other telnet authentication protocols, git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@9964 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2004-02-02start to dissect telnet (kerberos) authentication according to rfc2941sahlberg1-7/+157
start with dissection of the SEND request and the NAME field. continue later with the ones holding a kerberos ticket. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@9956 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2003-06-12Add new routines:guy1-10/+9
tvb_get_string() - takes a tvbuff, an offset, and a length as arguments, allocates a buffer big enough to hold a string with the specified number of bytes plus an added null terminator (i.e., length+1), copies the specified number of bytes from the tvbuff, at the specified offset, to that buffer and puts in a null terminator, and returns a pointer to that buffer (or throws an exception before allocating the buffer if that many bytes aren't available in the tvbuff); tvb_get_stringz() - takes a tvbuff, an offset, and a pointer to a "gint" as arguments, gets the size of the null-terminated string starting at the specified offset in the tvbuff (throwing an exception if the null terminator isn't found), allocates a buffer big enough to hold that string, copies the string to that buffer, and returns a pointer to that buffer and stores the length of the string (including the terminating null) in the variable pointed to by the "gint" pointer. Replace many pieces of code allocating a buffer and copying a string with calls to "tvb_get_string()" (for one thing, "tvb_get_string()" doesn't require you to remember that the argument to "tvb_get_nstringz0()" is the size of the buffer into which you're copying the string, which might be the length of the string to be copied *plus 1*). Don't use fixed-length buffers for null-terminated strings (even if the code that generates those packets has a #define to limit the length of the string). Use "tvb_get_stringz()", instead. In some cases where a value is fetched but is only used to pass an argument to a "proto_tree_add_XXX" routine, use "proto_tree_add_item()" instead. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@7859 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7

where necessary to reflect the new behavior. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@7607 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7

2003-04-22Get rid of C++ comments.guy1-13/+16
Fix up some comments, and eliminate a compiler warning. Make the "iac_found" variable Boolean, and get rid of a redundant initialization. Give David Yon credit for the recent Telnet updates. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@7535 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7

2003-02-24Get rid of the default "dissect_subopt()" suboption negotiation dataguy1-35/+35
dissector - have a null dissector pointer be the indication that there's no real dissector (we have to handle a null dissector pointer in any case, as the option code might be past the end of the table). git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@7190 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2003-02-24Add a framework for dissecting Telnet option subnegotiation data.guy1-64/+625
Add in dissectors for some options. Mark all options with the RFC number (or other document) that describes them. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@7184 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7

there. Try a different interpretation. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@6508 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2002-10-25Correctly handle the "no IAC found" case in "telnet_sub_option()".guy1-3/+10
Handle the "unknown command" case in "telnet_command()". git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@6507 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2002-08-28Removed trailing whitespaces from .h and .c files using thejmayer1-7/+7
winapi_cleanup tool written by Patrik Stridvall for the wine project. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@6117 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2002-08-02Replace the types from sys/types.h and netinet/in.h by their glib.hjmayer1-11/+3
equivalents for the toplevel directory. The removal of winsock2.h will hopefully not cause any problems under MSVC++, as those files using struct timeval still include wtap.h, which still includes winsock2.h. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@5932 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2002-07-17Add an extra argument to "tvb_find_line_end()", which specifies what itguy1-2/+2
should do if it doesn't find an EOL; if FALSE, it behaves as before, returning values that treat the line as ending at the end of the tvbuff, and if TRUE, it returns -1, so its caller can do segment reassembly until it gets the EOL. Add an option to the SMTP dissector to do segment reassembly, and do segment reassembly of the first line. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@5891 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2002-01-24Replace a bunch of "tvb_length()" and "tvb_length_remaining()" calls inguy1-3/+2
arguments to "proto_tree_add_text()", and to "proto_tree_add_XXX()" calls that add FT_NONE or FT_PROTO items to the protocol tree, with -1. Replace some calls to "tvb_length()" or "tvb_length_remaining()" with calls to "tvb_reported_length()" and "tvb_reported_length_remaining()", as those give the actual length of the data in the packet, not just the data that happened to be captured. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@4605 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2002-01-21Include files from the "epan" directory and subdirectories thereof withguy1-3/+3
"epan/..." pathnames, so as to avoid collisions with header files in any of the directories in which we look (e.g., "proto.h", as some other package has its own "proto.h" file which it installs in the top-level include directory). Don't add "-I" flags to search "epan", as that's no longer necessary (and we want includes of "epan" headers to fail if the "epan/" is left out, so that we don't re-introduce includes lacking "epan/"). git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@4586 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2001-12-10Move the pointer to the "column_info" structure in the "frame_data"guy1-5/+5
structure to the "packet_info" structure; only stuff that's permanently stored with each frame should be in the "frame_data" structure, and the "column_info" structure is not guaranteed to hold the column values for that frame at all times - it was only in the "frame_data" structure so that it could be passed to dissectors, and, as all dissectors are now passed a pointer to a "packet_info" structure, it could just as well be put in the "packet_info" structure. That saves memory, by shrinking the "frame_data" structure (there's one of those per frame), and also lets us clean up the code a bit. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@4370 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2001-12-03Make "dissector_add()", "dissector_delete()", and "dissector_change()"guy1-4/+6
take a dissector handle as an argument, rather than a pointer to a dissector function and a protocol ID. Associate dissector handles with dissector table entries. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@4308 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2001-10-26Guard against erroneously calculating a negative length during thegram1-9/+11
processing of sub-options. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@4084 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2001-01-25Remove more "CHECK_DISPLAY_AS_DATA()" calls and "pinfo->current_proto ="guy1-5/+1
statements. Move the setting of the Protocol column in various dissectors before anything is fetched from the packet, and also clear the Info column at that point in those and some other dissectors, so that if an exception is thrown, the columns don't reflect the previous protocol. "Tvbuffify" the Mobile IP dissector (it took old-style arguments, and then converted them into tvbuff arguments, so there wasn't much to do, other than to fix references to "fd" to refer to "pinfo->fd"). In the SCTP dissector, refer to the port type and source and destination ports through "pinfo" rather than through the global "pi", as it's a tvbuffified dissector. In the SMTP and Time Protocol dissectors, use "pinfo->match_port" rather than "TCP_PORT_SMTP" when checking whether the packet is a request or reply, just in case somebody makes a non-standard port be dissected as SMTP or Time. (Also, remove a bogus comment from the Time dissector; it was probably cut-and-pasted from the TFTP dissector.) git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2938 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2001-01-09Add an additional "protocol index" argument to "{old_}dissector_add()",guy1-2/+3
"{old_}heur_dissector_add()", "{old_}conv_dissector_add()", and "register_dissector()", so that an entry in those tables has associated with it the protocol index of the protocol the dissector handles (or -1, if there is no protocol index for it). This is for future use in a number of places. (Arguably, "proto_register_protocol()" should take a dissector pointer as an argument, but 1) it'd have to handle both regular and heuristic dissectors; 2) making it take either a "dissector_t" or a union of that and a "heur_dissector_t" introduces some painful header-file interdependencies so I'm punting on that for now. As with other Ethereal internal APIs, these APIs are subject to change in the future, at least until Ethereal 1.0 comes out....) git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2849 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2001-01-03Have "proto_register_protocol()" build a list of data structures forguy1-2/+2
protocols, in addition to adding structures to the list of filterable fields. Give it an extra argument that specifies a "short name" for the protocol, for use in such places as pinfo->current_proto; the dialog box for constructing filters; the preferences tab for the protocol; and so on (although we're not yet using it in all those places). Make the preference name that appears in the preferences file and the command line for the DIAMETER protocol "diameter", not "Diameter"; the convention is that the name in question be all-lower-case. Make some routines and variables that aren't exported static. Update a comment in the ICP dissector to make it clear that the dissector won't see fragments other than the first fragment of a fragmented datagram. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2810 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-11-19For each column, have both a buffer into which strings for that columnguy1-2/+2
can be put, and a pointer to the string for the column, which might or might not point to that buffer. Add a routine "col_set_str()", which sets the string for the column to the string passed to it as an argument; it should only be handed a static string (a string constant would be ideal). It doesn't do any copying, so it's faster than "col_add_str()". Make the routines that append to columns check whether the pointer to the string for the column points to the buffer for the column and, if not, copy the string for the column to the buffer for the column so that you can append to it (so you can use "col_set_str()" and then use "col_append_str()" or "col_append_fstr()"). Convert a bunch of "col_add_str()" calls that take a string constant as an argument to "col_set_str()" calls. Convert some "col_add_fstr()" calls that take a string constant as the only argument - i.e., the format string doesn't have any "%" slots into which to put strings for subsequent arguments to "col_set_str()" calls (those calls are just like "col_add_str()" calls). Replace an END_OF_FRAME reference in a tvbuffified dissector with a "tvb_length(tvb)" call. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2670 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-11-13Use "tvb_offset_exists()" rather than "tvb_length_remaining()" to checkguy1-4/+4
whether there's any data left in the tvbuff starting at a specified offset. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2636 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-11-12Make "tvb_find_line_end()" and "tvb_find_line_end_unquoted()" treat CRguy1-5/+45
by itself as a line ending, as well as treating CR LF and LF as line endings. Tweak the Telnet dissector to treat LF and CR NUL as line endings, but not to treat CR by itself as a line ending (that's not exactly what the NVT specification in the Telnet RFC specifies, but the resulting output may be a bit more readable that way). git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2613 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-11-09Tvbuffify the HTTP, NNTP, RSH, RTSP, and Telnet dissectors.guy1-83/+82
Add "tvb_find_line_end()", to find a CR and/or LF-terminated line in a tvbuff and return its length and the offset of the character after the line end, for the use of those dissectors. Add "tvb_strncaseeql()", which is like "tvb_strneql()" except that it does a case-insensitive comparison. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2590 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-09-29When displaying Telnet data, split it into lines (perhaps not ideal ifguy1-8/+29
you're doing full-screen stuff or binary data, but splitting it based on "\r" and/or "\n" probably necessarily make things worse, and it definitely makes things better if you're doing line-at-a-time text). git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2467 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-09-11Move format_text(), get_token_len(), and fine_line_end(), into strutil.cgram1-1/+2
This keeps tvbuff.c generic; it doesn't have to pull in packet.h and all of it's included files. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2409 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-08-13Add the "Edit:Protocols..." feature which currently only implementsdeniel1-1/+3
the following: It is now possible to enable/disable a particular protocol decoding (i.e. the protocol dissector is void or not). When a protocol is disabled, it is displayed as Data and of course, all linked sub-protocols are disabled as well. Disabling a protocol could be interesting: - in case of buggy dissectors - in case of wrong heuristics - for performance reasons - to decode the data as another protocol (TODO) Currently (if I am not wrong), all dissectors but NFS can be disabled (and dissectors that do not register protocols :-) I do not like the way the RPC sub-dissectors are disabled (in the sub-dissectors) since this could be done in the RPC dissector itself, knowing the sub-protocol hfinfo entry (this is why, I've not modified the NFS one yet). Two functions are added in proto.c : gboolean proto_is_protocol_enabled(int n); void proto_set_decoding(int n, gboolean enabled); and two MACROs which can be used in dissectors: OLD_CHECK_DISPLAY_AS_DATA(index, pd, offset, fd, tree) CHECK_DISPLAY_AS_DATA(index, tvb, pinfo, tree) See also the XXX in proto_dlg.c and proto.c around the new functions. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2267 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-08-07Allow either old-style (pre-tvbuff) or new-style (tvbuffified)guy1-2/+2
dissectors to be registered as dissectors for particular ports, registered as heuristic dissectors, and registered as dissectors for conversations, and have routines to be used both by old-style and new-style dissectors to call registered dissectors. Have the code that calls those dissectors translate the arguments as necessary. (For conversation dissectors, replace "find_conversation_dissector()", which just returns a pointer to the dissector, with "old_try_conversation_dissector()" and "try_conversation_dissector()", which actually call the dissector, so that there's a single place at which we can do that translation. Also make "dissector_lookup()" static and, instead of calling it and, if it returns a non-null pointer, calling that dissector, just use "old_dissector_try_port()" or "dissector_try_port()", for the same reason.) This allows some dissectors that took old-style arguments and immediately translated them to new-style arguments to just take new-style arguments; make them do so. It also allows some new-style dissectors not to have to translate arguments before calling routines to look up and call dissectors; make them not do so. Get rid of checks for too-short frames in new-style dissectors - the tvbuff code does those checks for you. Give the routines to register old-style dissectors, and to call dissectors from old-style dissectors, names beginning with "old_", with the routines for new-style dissectors not having the "old_". Update the dissectors that use those routines appropriately. Rename "dissect_data()" to "old_dissect_data()", and "dissect_data_tvb()" to "dissect_data()". git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2218 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-05-31Add routines for adding items to a protocol tree that take arguments ofguy1-2/+2
a particular type, rather than taking a varargs list, along the lines of the "proto_tree_add_XXX_format()" routines. Replace most calls to "proto_tree_add_item()" and "proto_tree_add_item_hidden()" with calls to those routines. Rename "proto_tree_add_item()" and "proto_tree_add_item_hidden()" to "proto_tree_add_item_old()" and "proto_tree_add_item_hidden_old()", and add new "proto_tree_add_item()" and "proto_tree_add_item_hidden()" routines that don't take the item to be added as an argument - instead, they fetch the argument from the packet whose tvbuff was handed to them, from the offset handed to them. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@2031 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-05-11Add tvbuff class.gram1-22/+22
Add exceptions routines. Convert proto_tree_add_*() routines to require tvbuff_t* argument. Convert all dissectors to pass NULL argument ("NullTVB" macro == NULL) as the tvbuff_t* argument to proto_tree_add_*() routines. dissect_packet() creates a tvbuff_t, wraps the next dissect call in a TRY block, will print "Short Frame" on the proto_tree if a BoundsError exception is caught. The FDDI dissector is converted to use tvbuff's. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@1939 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
2000-04-08Move calls to "dissector_add()" out of the register routines for TCP andguy1-2/+10
UDP and into the handoff registration routines for the protocols in question. Make the dissectors for those protocols static if they're not called outside the dissector's source file. Get rid of header files if all they did was declare dissectors that are now static; remove declarations of now-static dissectors from header files that do more than just declare the dissector. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@1823 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7

2000-03-23Don't use temporary buffers for strings; use the data in the packetguy1-151/+131
buffer directly. Don't use "strlen()" to determine how much Telnet data there is; we have the number of bytes of Telnet data in a variable, and using "strlen()" makes it not correctly handle Telnet data with '\0' in it. Correctly handle Telnet options we don't know about. General cleanup. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@1746 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7

dynamically-assigned "ett_" integer values, assigned by "proto_register_subtree_array()"; this: obviates the need to update "packet.h" whenever you add a new subtree type - you only have to add a call to "proto_register_subtree_array()" to a "register" routine and an array of pointers to "ett_", if they're not already there, and add a pointer to the new "ett_" variable to the array, if they are there; would allow run-time-loaded dissectors to allocate subtree types when they're loaded. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@1043 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7

1999-08-18Declare the "packet_info" structure "pi" in "packet.h", rather than in aguy1-5/+4
bunch of source files. Replace the "payload" field of a "packet_info" structure with "len" and "captured_len" fields, which contain the total packet length and total captured packet length (including all headers) at the current protocol layer (i.e., if a given layer has a length field, and that length field says its shorter than the length we got from the capture, reduce the "pi.len" and "pi.captured_len" values appropriately). Those fields can be used in the future if we add checks to make sure a field we're extracting from a packet doesn't go past the end of the packet, or past the captured part of the packet. Get rid of the additional payload argument to some dissection functions; use "pi.captured_len - offset" instead. Have the END_OF_FRAME macro use "pi.captured_len" rather than "fd->cap_len", so that "dissect the rest of the frame" becomes "dissect the rest of the packet", and doesn't dissect end-of-frame padding such as padding added to make an Ethernet frame 60 or more octets long. (We might want to rename it END_OF_PACKET; if we ever want to label the end-of-frame padding for the benefit of people curious what that extra gunk is, we could have a separate END_OF_FRAME macro that uses "fd->cap_len".) git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@506 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
1999-07-29Made the protocol (but not the fields) use the new proto_tree routine,gram1-7/+14
allowing users to filter on the existence of these protocols. I also added packet-clip.c to the Nmake makefile. git-svn-id: http://anonsvn.wireshark.org/wireshark/trunk@402 f5534014-38df-0310-8fa8-9805f1628bb7
