2023-08-31M3UA: Give a hint to look at the MTP3 preferencesJohn Thacker1-0/+1
The SS7 standard (ITU-T, ANSI, Japan, China, heuristic detection) that M3UA uses is controlled by the MTP3 preferences. Give a static text suggestion in the M3UA preferences that the user should look at the MTP3 preferences.
2022-10-26epan: Fix bogus string truncations found with a searchJoão Valverde1-1/+1
Fix some unnecessary string truncations that look bogus to me. Forcing a given UTF-8 byte length for no reason will in most cases produce encoding errors. Fixes #18548.
2022-07-20Use WS_ROUNDUP_4 in more dissectorsJohn Thacker1-2/+2
Several more dissectors define their own "round up the length to a 4 byte word boundary" macros. Use the new common macro in wsutil/ws_roundup.h instead.
2022-02-15Tools: Fix fix-encoding-args.pl ASCII string validationJoão Valverde1-1/+1
Do not require a useless ENC_NA parameter for string encodings. FT_STRING and FT_STRINGZ types don't have any ndianness. Follow-up to 6ec429622c9258eefd388caf21ce92ab5b9f54b4.
2021-09-01tvbuff: convert helper methods to pinfo->poolEvan Huus1-1/+1
A few of them just needed scratch memory, so allocate and free it manually after doing any exception-raising checks. A few others were returning memory, and needed conversion to accept a wmem scope argument.
2020-08-29Fix more spelling errors in dissector strings.Martin Mathieson1-1/+1
A second batch of spelling errors, detected using a script that uses pyspellcheck and a Wireshark-specific dictionary file. I will take at least one more pass through the dissectors, as further improvements are made to the script.
2020-04-12Fix up some broken links to specs from dissectors.Martin Mathieson1-5/+5
check_dissector_urls.py was written and used to find URLs within epan/dissectors/*.c and try to fetch them using 'requests'. Will be commmitted separately. Most of the changes were to adapt to reorganisation of IETF or 3gpp2 links, but many of the broken links are for websites or companies that no longer exist. 2016-12-31Dissectors don't need a journey of self discovery.Michael Mann1-3/+2
They already know who they are when they register themselves. Saving the handle then to avoid finding it later. Not sure if this will increase unnecessary register_dissector functions (instead of using create_dissector_handle in proto_reg_handoff function) when other dissectors copy/paste, but it should make startup time a few microseconds better. 2016-06-13Convert AT_SS7PC to a "dissector address type"Michael Mann1-2/+7
The formatting of the address type is determined by a preference in packet-mtp3.c, so just make MTP3 register the address type. Use address_type_get_by_name in other dissectors (and export_pdu) to use the address type. 2016-03-20Create call_data_dissector() to call data dissector.Michael Mann1-3/+2
This saves many dissectors the need to find the data dissector and store a handle to it. There were also some that were finding it, but not using it. For others this was the only reason for their handoff function, so it could be eliminated. 2016-03-20Manually add protocol dependencies derived from find_dissector.Michael Mann1-1/+1
Started by grepping call_dissector_with_data, call_dissector_only and call_dissector and traced the handles passed into them to a find_dissector within the dissector. Then replaced find_dissector with find_dissector_add_dependency and added the protocol id from the dissector. "data" dissector was not considered to be a dependency. 2015-11-04Don't include "file.h" if you don't need it.Guy Harris1-0/+1
It ends up dragging in libwireshark headers, which programs not linking with libwireshark shouldn't do. In particular, including <epan/address.h> causes some functions that refer to libwireshark functions to be defined if the compiler doesn't handle "static inline" the way GCC does, and you end up requiring libwireshark even though you shouldn't require it. Move plurality() to wsutil/str_util.h, so that non-libwireshark code can get it without include epan/packet.h. Fix includes as necessary.
