Do one or more of the following:
- Convert "4 space tabs" to spaces;
- Remove some unneeded initializers;
- 'offset++' --> 'offset += 1' for consistency;
- Reformat hf[] entries;
- Rework/add whitespace;
- Adjust editor modelines (set tab-width to 8).
