They already know who they are when they register themselves. Saving the handle then to avoid finding it later. Not sure if this will increase unnecessary register_dissector functions (instead of using create_dissector_handle in proto_reg_handoff function) when other dissectors copy/paste, but it should make startup time a few microseconds better. 2015-07-17Remove all preferences related to enabling/disabling heuristic dissectors.Michael Mann1-1/+1
The preferences are still supported for backwards compatibility, but the heuristic_protos file has final say on the "preference" to enable/disable a heuristic dissector. Also add parameter to heur_dissector_add() for the "default" enable/disable of a heuristic dissector. With this parameter, a few more (presumably weak) heuristic dissectors have been "registered" but of course default to being disabled. hf_ field name is the first part of the formatted string. This was done with a perl script on the dissectors directory (packet-*.c), followed by manual inspection of the output. The manual inspection yielded a few cases that really should have been proto_tree_add_uint or proto_tree_add_item, so I updated them accordingly. The script didn't catch as many as I would have liked, but it's a start. The most common (ab)use of proto_tree_add_uint_format was for appending strings to CRC/checksum values to note good or bad CRC/checksum. svn path=/trunk/; revision=52045

This patch protects against malformed Unique ID lengths (>= 252 bytes) and defer all tvb_xxx related calls to when we actually need them. This allows us to dissects as much as possible before bailing out (in case of a malformed length). From me: Add a link to the protocol specification. Remove packet-miop.h along with some struct definitions. (Don't tvb_memcpy over structs!) Remove some more tvbuffs. Don't call proto_item_add_subtree if we're not going to use the trees. Call proto_tree_add_item instead of proto_tree_add_text Remove a bunch of unused ett_ variables. Add an expert item for the protocol version.
